BRCA-DIRECT is an efficient NHS-embedded end-to-end clinical workflow involving a digital platform, saliva-sample postal pathway and genetic counsellor telephone hotline. This means that rather than clinician-intensive hospital appointments to deliver in-person the rather generic pre-test genetic counselling content, patients can receive pre-test information about the test and their test results in their home, by their timing, with their family. A genetic counsellor hotline enables immediate, convenient recourse to expert information, if individualised questions or concerns arise. Implementation of this clinician-light system means more patients with cancer can benefit from genetic testing for high-risk cancer genes like BRCA1 and BRCA2.
