MSE FT and oVRcome will undertake a project focused on supporting patients with Learning Disabilities and / or Autism (LD/A) to treat phobias & social anxiety in their own homes using virtual reality (VR) technology, focusing on two key initiatives:
• VR Exposure Therapy Programme to treat needle phobias and social anxiety – this will be the first trial of the programmes with a cohort of patients living with LD/A.
• Social stories – Working with healthcare staff and patients with lived experience to co-design and co-create VR experiences to help patients with LD/A prepare for their interactions with healthcare services.

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust and oVRcome are developing a Virtual Reality programme to support patients with a learning disability and/or autistic people to overcome anxieties around healthcare situations, including social stories to help patients prepare for interactions with healthcare services and VR Exposure Therapy to address needle phobias and social anxiety.
