Project Development of a novel point-of-care blood fingerpick device that identifies adult chemotherapy patients requiring emergency admission for suspected neutropenic sepsis
Description

Technology highlight: The NeutroCheck device will rapidly identify chemotherapy patients at risk of a life-threatening complication called neutropenic sepsis. Through better triaging, Neutrocheck has the potential to save hundreds of UK lives per year, free-up healthcare resources, and make patients' lives easier, simpler, and better.

Technology summary: Even a mild illness can put chemotherapy patients at risk of developing a condition called neutropenic sepsis. Neutropenic sepsis is a life-threatening emergency, so patients are rushed to hospital if they show any symptoms. However, 50% of patients turn out not to have the condition, and therefore suffer unnecessary stress and receive unnecessary antibiotics. NeutroCheck is a fast, reliable and low-cost device to test for suspected neutropenic sepsis at home. NeutroCheck enables rapid management of the condition for those who test positive, and gives peace of mind to those who don't. Neutrocheck aims to improve patient safety and quality of life, reducing antibiotic wastage, and empowering doctors to treat their patients efficiently.

Project Driving net zero personalised care through optimising the Neutrocheck solution, and creating an electronic tool to measure Carbon-related Patient-Reported Outcomes (Carbon ePROMs) to support the NHS to deliver net zero-innovations (including Neutrocheck) industrywide
Description

Neutrocheck helps rapidly identify chemotherapy patients at risk of neutropenic sepsis. Through better triaging, Neutrocheck has the potential to save lives, reduce the burden on emergency care, improve quality of life and reduce carbon emissions. Project A health economic evaluation of the impact of OrthoPathway in NHS Trusts and the development of further clinical decision support applications to improve clinical effectiveness
Description

OrthoPathway is a web platform designed to maximise the clinical effectiveness of NHS musculoskeletal services.
Patient-facing clinical staff are enabled to follow best practice national guidelines adapted by their local expert NHS consultants.

OrthoPathway is the first in a range of progressive web applications designed to support clinical staff to reliably make more rapid decisions on patient management and treatment across an integrated network of community and hospital-based services. The content management system enables the standardisation of treatment plans for all patient presentations through editable, fully illustrated, engaging interactive flowcharts.

Implementation results in:
• Reduced demand on emergency departments (EDs) as many patients are safely discharged or diverted to primary care from the community minor injury units (MIUs).
• Reduced length of stay in the EDs as the complex decision-making algorithms of specialists in Trauma and Orthopaedics are available to all clinical staff in an easy to navigate format.
