Become an SBRI Healthcare Panellist

Could you use your expertise to support healthcare innovators and the NHS?

SBRI Healthcare manages funding competitions and a portfolio of projects across medtech, healthtech, in vitro diagnostics, digital innovations (including Artificial Intelligence), and behavioural interventions on behalf of the Accelerated Access Collaborative and NHS England.

The Programme Management Office (PMO) invites individuals with the following expertise to apply as expert panel members:

  • Technologists with a demonstrated track record in developing medical devices, in vitro diagnostics and/or digital health solutions.

  • Health inequalities in either specific or a range of health and/or social care areas, their causes and how these might be mitigated.

  • Med Tech and digital health regulations, including those with an understanding of MHRA requirements, regulatory approvals for medical devices and/or digital innovations in the UK and further afield for successful commercialisation and/or adoption.

  • Commercialisation of healthcare innovations, including Venture Capitalists that have supported the development, implementation and/or adoption of innovations in a healthcare setting.

  • Evaluation of health/economic/system outcomes and Implementation of health technologies and innovations in a healthcare setting, with the ability to assess appropriate implementation strategies, barriers, and relevant human factors.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Panel members will participate in the assessment of proposals for funding recommendations to NHS England.

  • Review up to 10 applications in line with assessment criteria and according to deadlines provided by the SBRI Healthcare PMO (usually reviewed over 2-3 weeks).

  • Attend up to 3 days of Panel Meetings per year (held virtually).

  • Panel members are encouraged to attend briefing and training sessions organised by the PMO

  • Act as ambassadors for the SBRI Healthcare Programme wherever possible

Please note that Panel membership tenure is for two years in the first instance, subject to commitment and performance, and may be renewed for a further two years. Reasonable travel and expenses are reimbursed.

The Programme Management Office will review applications on a rolling basis and will reach out to you about the outcome.
