Inhaled anaesthetic and analgesic gases are the most environmentally damaging drugs used in healthcare. Nitrous Oxide (N2O) has 300 times the global warming impact of carbon-dioxide and is particularly harmful because of the huge amounts used. N2O is most commonly given combined with oxygen (Entonox, or 'gas and air'); it provides effective pain relief for >80% of women in labour, and millions of people worldwide undergoing minor injury treatment or small operations. Envirolieve will substantially reduce Entonox consumption, potentially by as much as 90%, enabling the same safe and effective pain relief but with dramatically less environmental harm.

Envirolieve is cost effective and simple to integrate with existing technologies and therefore has the potential to be rapidly adopted into practice.

Our drones provide a safe, reliable, low-carbon alternative to current couriers. The NHS supply chain has known high emissions and inefficiencies - we will address and improve both. Drones can rapidly transport medical packages on-demand, removing couriers from the ground, reducing congestion, delays and emissions. Drone travel is also more predictable than road, allowing for greater confidence and reliability of delivery.
On showcasing our technology, we will:

• Conduct evidence-based research on drone delivery safety and patient/clinician benefits to formulate use-cases;
• Obtain regulatory approvals and complete drone operator tendering process;
• Design the Northumbria Air Grid by mapping air corridors between hospitals, GPs and other healthcare facilities;
• Design and implement an operational drone delivery service, economically and sustainably transporting medical supplies.
  

Jump produce engaging interfaces to motivate low-carbon decision making. This project will deliver three key innovations:

1. A carbon footprint engagement tool that will include a healthcare-specific carbon calculator.
2. A means to set goals that are specific to each individual staff member, reflecting that different roles have different decision making scope.
3. A feedback loop for staff members, enabled by AI and based on Trusts’ corporate data. This will show progress to net zero in an engaging and dynamic way.
   This project will extend Jump’s platform, currently focussed on personal choices, to include work-related decision making for NHS staff. This will deliver greater sustainability, reduced NHS costs and will help provide patients with sustainable treatment options.
